PS Audio Releases Mount Massive Firmware Upgrade

January 12th, 2024

Boulder, Colorado, January 16, 2024 – PS Audio has released its Mount Massive firmware upgrade for its PerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2.The new v3.1.0 operating system update enables the DirectStream DAC MK2 to deliver an extraordinary new level of sound quality, with greater resolution, lower noise, and other sonic refinements.

Paul McGowan, PS Audio CEO noted, “This is the single biggest upgrade I have ever heard in the 50 years I’ve been in the industry. Mount Massive has elevated the performance of the DirectStream DAC MK2 to levels I had only dared dream of.”

The DirectStream DAC MK2’s exclusive Digital Lens, which rebuilds the incoming digital data into a new and jitter-free signal, has been updated with a new buffer. Audible noise has been lowered by 10 dB, and ultrasonic noise is reduced by 30 dB. The Mount Massive OS update is the result of hundreds of hours of work by Ted Smith, PS Audio’s digital engineering expert. It’s made possible because, unlike designs based on conventional DACs, the PerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2 is fully programmable by means of its FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) core processing engine.

The sonic improvements are not subtle. Resolution of fine musical detail is significantly better. The soundstage is wider and deeper, with a more open and airy quality, and the overall listening experience is one of powerful, yet refined and balanced sound.
